Well, much has happened since the Krampus came to Ebensee and our last update. There were hundreds of Krampus that night and they all put on a good show, though my favourites had to be the first group who dangled comically from a tractor that was partially ablaze!
Shortly after, we had the Advent markets which were full of goodies and Glühwein! We had some brilliant days exploring the varied markets from the intimate and romantic setting of St Wolfgang to the spectacular cityscape of Salzburg. We have started our first Christmas tradition for our life in Austria which is to buy a Nussknacker from an Advent market each year. We have started with the smallest we could find and established that it can’t really crack nuts but he looked good standing attention on top of the Kachelofen!
After a lovely time over the Christmas season and a spectacular New Year’s Eve with what seemed like the whole valley setting off fireworks it was time to sample the slopes and we were in for a treat. The snow has been incredible this season and the powder has been deep even on piste! I’ve been lucky enough to spend a few seasons out in the snow but this has got to be the best I have seen and being in an “off the radar” type resort at Dachstein West and Feuerkogel it means loads more first tracks! There is plenty of time left in the season and as I type it is snowing heavily again and is set to continue snowing for at least 24 hours which means another powder week tomorrow! We offer a great base for ski safaris and families alike and can provide our brilliant bed and breakfast accommodation at just €35 per person per night, with some great deals for the kids.
