Splitboarding is Superb

Ski touring style up with a snowboard to get back down. The transitions can be a bit slower than ski touring but the snowboarding more than makes up for it! Up on the Feuerkogel there are several routes like the Hochschneid shown in the video below, or the Gr. Höllkogel with fabulous views onto Attersee and the surrounding backcountry of the Höllkogel range of mountains. Both routes mentioned have some signage and it’s always possible to hire a guide to make route finding even easier. Allow about 3-5 hours for the Gr. Höllkogel tour depending on how dialled your technique is and obligatory photo stops!

Both tours mentioned can be started from the top of the Feuerkogel cable car station (or if you’re really hardcore from the bottom!). From there head towards the Edeltal and then pick the signs up for the Höllkogel. The Hochschneid and Höllkogel routes can even be combined if you’ve got the legs for it and makes for a great day tour with a stop at the Riederhütte (though check if it’s open beforehand!) for a break and a bite to eat.
