Rather go up or around the mountain than down? Snowshoe hiking is the answer.
You don’t need much equipment or experience for a snowshoe hike but there are organised tours available to help get you started if you wish. If you don’t have your own snowshoes it’s possible to hire these just as easily as skis. Just remember you will still need a good pair of hiking boots to complement the snow “shoes.”
Snow-shoe hikes and winter treks are probably one of the most relaxing winter sports out there and our local resort, the Feuerkogel, offers many different tour options starting from 20 Euros per person.
For a holiday with a difference why not enjoy a romantic evening on the mountain with a torch lit hike safely organised by a guided tour (minimum 6 people) in the light of the full moon? If you are really keen you can even spend the night up there in an igloo!
To find out how we got on our first snowshoe and ski tour route, as well as some winter wonderland pictures, please take a look at our blog entries for snowshoe hiking at the Predigstuhl and also here for snowshoe hiking at the Feuerkogel.
